Experimental study on virtual origins of buoyancy-controlled jet flames with sidewalls

2016
Abstract Virtual origin is an important factor to investigate the temperature distribution of fire plume. The virtual origin of buoyancy-control jet flames with sidewalls has been investigated with the experiments under different spaces of sidewalls ( L  = 15, 20, 30, 40, 60, 80, and ∞ cm) and different sizes of nozzle (d = 0.6 cm and 1.0 cm). It is found that the virtual origin of buoyancy-controlled jet flame increases with reducing the spaces of sidewalls, and it increases with increasing the heat release rate. A global model has been proposed to estimate the virtual origin of jet flames under a semi-open space with different spaces of sidewalls. These results and correlations are new and a significant improvement over previous results in the literature.
