AN 80 cm LIQUID HELIUM BUBBLE CHAMBER.
1968
Abstract An 80 cm long liquid helium bubble chamber has been designed and commissioned as a joint project by Oxford University Nuclear Physics Laboratory and the Rutherford High Energy Laboratory for use with Nimrod, the Rutherford Laboratory 7 GeV proton synchroton. The work was carried out under a contract from the Science Research Council. The chamber is rectangular in shape and has a useful volume of 120 litre. Liquid expansion is achieved by means of a metal bellows, and the chamber operates in a vertical magnetic field. A direct illumination system is used with four light sources below the chamber and four cameras above.
