DESIGN/BUILD VS. DESIGN/BID TOLL ROAD TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM DESIGN

The increasing frequency of design/build projects will require traffic engineers to give more attention to the planning and coordination parts of the design, and become creative in combining the various parts of the corridor operating system (COS) to provide a more cost efficient set of construction plans. The designer becomes part of a larger team, consisting of contractor, planners and other engineering disciplines, and must work with all parties to provide an agency acceptable design which can be constructed within the contract budget.
