The Cross Talk Between the Central Nervous System, Bone, and Energy Metabolism

2018
Most physiological functions rely on a network of interorgan communication. Mouse genetics has revived this holistic views on physiology through the identification of novel interorgan communications that are unanticipated, functionally important, and would have been difficult to uncover otherwise. This chapter highlights this aspect of physiology by showing on the one hand, how the central nervous system regulates bone physiology and on the other hand, how bone influences several physiological processes as an endocrine organ.
