Caring for the unconscious patient

Caring for the unconscious patient is not only confined to the practices of critical care and theatre nurses; unconsciousness can occur in any area of nursing. Causes of unconsciousness (acute and chronic) have been discussed in earlier chapters but the fundamental needs and care for someone who is unconscious is the same irrespective of the underlying cause.
