Losses economics for vaccine abscesses and/or other medicines in bovine carcasses abated in Goiás, Brazil

2006
LOSSES ECONOMICS FOR VACCINE ABSCESSES AND/OR OTHER MEDICINES IN BOVINE CARCASSES ABATED IN GOIAS, BRAZIL During the first two weeks of July, 2002, a study was carried out in order to confirm the economic loss due to abscesses caused by vaccines and/or other medicines in beef carcasses, through the excision, collection and weighting to affected parts. The study was monitored by the agents of federal inspection and the data was analyzed. During the study 2,662 bovines from 22 municipalities of the state Goias were slaughtered. The lesions were presented only in the neck, hump, rib and interrupt. The medium weight of damaged tissue from all the animals was 0.213 kg. The impact of carcass loss from this cause makes important to reconsider the vaccination methods generally used on the farms.
