Synthesis, structural analysis and magnetic property of a chiral Mn(II) coordination polymer

2012
Abstract A novel chiral metal–organic coordination polymer [Mn 2 (C 7 H 8 O 6 ) 2 (bipy) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]·6H 2 O ( 1 ) (C 7 H 8 O 6  = 2,3- O -isopropylidene-L-tartrate dianion, bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine) has been solvothermally synthesized in high yield and fully characterized, including by single crystal and powder X-ray diffractions. The analysis of X-ray crystallography revealed that a two-dimensional (2-D) rectangular-grid layer with a cavity dimension of 11.658 × 5.273 A 2 , which can be survived up to 200 °C, has been constructed. In the polymer 1 through the oxygen atoms of tartrates and the coordinated water molecules, the 2-D rectangular-grid layers are hydrogen-bonded to the lattice water chains to form a 3-D supramolecular network. Preliminary investigation reveals that 1 shows weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the Mn(II) centers.
