Experimental study on isotope separation with femtosecond laser pulses

2002
Separation between copper and nickel has been obtained with femtosecond laser pulses interacting with targets composed of copper and nickel. Analysis shows that the effects of the laser spontaneous axial magnetic field and the laser spontaneous transverse magnetic field are opposite, and there is competition between them in the process of isotope separation. Different magnetic configuration can result in different laser isotope separation. Consequently laser isotope separation could be controlled through controlling laser plasma interaction process.
