Infrared-radio wireless communication system

2018
The paper presents a preliminary tests results of designed hybrid wireless communication system consisted of radio (RF) and optical (FSO) data links. The system configuration is unique with respect to devices available on the market, because of application of an optical channel operated at the LWIR spectrum (8–15 μm). Proposed system provides to transmit data using two communication links in manual and automatic modes. In the first mode, an operator can define the active transmission channel (radio or optical). The automatic mode gives priority to the FSO data link. During the tests, a radio data link basing on commercially wireless was applied. The results confirmed the assumed functionality of the designed hybrid wireless data link.
