Hybrid field-circuit simulation by coupling DGTD with behavioral macromodel

2016
Due to the increase of the operating frequency and the complexity of modern microwave circuits, transient hybrid field-circuit simulations have aroused great interest in the field of heterogeneous electromagnetics such as signal integrity/power integrity (SI/PI), electromagnetic compatibility/electromagnetic interference (EMC/EMI), etc‥ A novel transient field-circuit cosimulation method based on the discontinuous Galerkin time domain (DGTD) method and circuit behaviour macromodels is proposed. Different from the traditional field-circuit simulation method which needs to know the detail of the circuits and cannot handle problems with unknown systems due to IP protections. The proposed method utilizes the artificial neural network (ANN) to create trainable sigmoidal basis functions (SBF) behavioral macromodels of the unknown circuits based on the port currents and port voltages. DGTD method is employed to deal with complex electromagnetic structure involving dielectric substrate, vias, microstrip lines, etc. Finally the SBF macromodel of circuit network is coupled with DGTD that describes the behavior of electromagnetic subsystem to form equations of the whole system, which can be solved to obtain transient fields, voltages and currents. Numerical examples have been benchmarked to demonstrate the capability of the proposed method.
