Achieving a sustainable diet: What are the issues?

The importance of good dietary habits from a young age is now well accepted, but there are growing concerns over how sustainable our food supply is and whether our dietary habits need to change in order to ensure a more sustainable food supply for the future. Health visitors have a key role in providing advice on diet and nutrition to families with young children and helping to encourage good eating habits from an early age. However, with growing pressures on the global food system, the need to consider sustainability issues when making dietary choices is of increasing importance. This is a very complex area but there are some initial steps that families can start taking to help ensure that our food supply remains sustainable for the future.
