Ultrafine Magnetic Particles Characterisation as a Proxy of Biogeochemcial Processes at a Brownfield Site

2019
We present results of magnetic properties characterization of sediment samples from a brownfield site in Brazil. The distribution of ultrafine particles correlates well with methanogens, suggesting these microbes produce the ultrafine particles. These results support the use of environmental magnetism techniques to investigate biogeochemical processes of anaerobic microbial activity.
