The Hill-fort at Eston Nab, Eston, Cleveland

1988
The scarp-edge hill-fort at Eston Nab has long figured in the antiquarian and archaeological literature of Cleveland and north-east Yorkshire. A programme of excavation has been undertaken by Cleveland County Archaeology Section as part of a wider survey of later prehistoric settlement and land-use on the Eston Hills, a tract of upland which constitutes an outlier of the North York Moors. The present report details the results of the recent excavation of the hill-fort, and also incorporates the results of investigations undertaken by Frank Elgee in the 1920s and by Alan Aberg in the 1960s.
