First demonstration of laser computed tomography of human tooth by coherent detection imaging

The optical heterodyne technique with an argon laser as the source is used to obtain the first laser tomographic images of an extracted human tooth. The different layers of the internal structure of tooth such as dentine and pulp cavity can be clearly discerned with submillimetre resolution.
