The C-Band All-Sky Survey (CBASS)

2010
The C-Band All Sky Survey (C-BASS) will perform an all sky-survey in total intensity and polarization at 5GHz to sub-millikelvin sensitivity. The resulting map will serve as a synchrotron template for foreground subtraction from future CMB studies. CBASS data will also be used to map the magnetic field of our Galaxy, and in combination with other data sets it may shed some light on the nature of the anomalous dust-correlated emission in the Galaxy. The Northern map observations have begun in Owens Valley, California, with the Southern sky to follow from South Africa. In this talk we present an overview of the experiment, focusing on a description of the instrument and the primary science goals of the project.
