Hydrodynamic disintegration of foam biomass to upgrade of wastewater

2010
Filamentous microorganisms are responsible for foam formation and activated sludge bulking. Hydrodynamic disintegration process facility biodegradation of organic matter included in scum biomass. Hydrodynamic disintegration results in destruction and disruption of the scum microorganisms as well as increase concentration of organic matter, phosphorus, volatile fatty acids (VFA), ammonium nitrogen in liquid phase and biogas production. It was demonstrated that disintegration of foam biomass permits removal of a part of nutrients in the form of struvite. Disintegration by hydrodynamic cavitation foam has a positive effect on wastewater treatment.
