Temperature detector based on a SILPG structure embedded into polymer matrix of a smart composite polymer material

2020
Abstract The paper presents the results obtained in simulation of how the temperature variation inside a Smart Composite Polymer Material (SCPM) is measured using a Long Period Grating Fibre Sensor (LPGFS) operated directly in a simple setup or inserted into a more elaborate differential self-interference (SILPG) scheme with sensing and reference arms. The LPGFS or the SILPG constitutes the feedback loop of the SCPM to be used in system automatization. The simulation results are compared with experimental ones and a good agreement between the two kinds of data being observed. The paper is pointing to an improved simulation/design method of smart composite polymer materials and their applications in various fields such as aeronautics, industry, medicine and defence.
