The selection, orientation and mounting of diamonds for use as Bridgman anvils

1966
The maximum pressure generated by Bridgman anvils made of diamond was found to be mainly dependent upon the mounting of the diamond rather than on its shape or orientation. By suitably mounting the diamonds mean pressures up to 600 kb were achieved on an anvil face of 0.015 in. diameter before fracture.
