Are Entrepreneurs Trainable Towards Success: Reviewing Impact of Training on Entrepreneurship Success

2017
Purpose: The present review paper purports to examine through the study of extant literature, the qualities that makes an entrepreneur successful, how educational institutes can stimulate entrepreneurship, overview of need, strategies, objectives, challenges and opportunities of entrepreneurial training and finally discusses how entrepreneurial training leads to success. Design/methodology/approach: The paper examines a range of issues and challenges related to entrepreneurship development. The introductory part is divided into three sections: who is an entrepreneur, behavioural traits and entrepreneurial intentions, and education and training. Findings: The paper finds that attention is required to develop entrepreneurs; there remains a lack of research on entrepreneurial intentions and enterprise/entrepreneurship education and training in varied and multiple contexts. The literature encapsulates with theories and deliberations relating to the issue of who is an entrepreneur and questions whether entrepreneurs can be trained. This leads to a debatable question of whether entrepreneurship can be trained in an individual, and with this concept in mind, there is still considerable uncertainty. Originality/value: The paper provides the basis for a more nuanced understanding of entrepreneurial intentions and related education and training which is of interest to both researchers and policymakers.
