Selecting our position: educational curriculum needed for information services professionals, year 1998 and beyond
1993
The paper proposes a curriculum agenda providing a knowledge base and levels of skill development required to meet information services needs in the late 1990's and the year 2000. Curriculum developed will not be based on institutional structures dispensing or using information but rather on the processes of information transfer and higher level thinking skills required to design and implement information systems. A proposed curriculum clusters around five aspects of information: 1) flow of information, 2) analysis of information, 3) users and uses of information, 4) carriers of information, 5) intellectual history and social roots of the information professions. Inherent philosophical values, on which this curriculum rests, are access to information and information literacy as a right of each individual living in a global society
