FOUNTAIN MODEL AND THE ROTATION OF COMETARY NUCLEI

1987
In the present paper, the authors extend Eddington's fountain model in consideration of the rotation of cometary nucleus, derive the corresponding formulas for calculating the apparent density distribution of neutral molecules in cometary atmospheres and prove that the distribution of the apparent density in comets depends upon the position of the observer with respect to the comet. Some information about the rotation of cometary nucleus might be deduced by means of these derived formulas.
