Interparticle correlations in Fe3O4 ferrofluids, studied by the small angle neutron scattering technique

Abstract Aggregation in sterically stabilised Fe 3 O 4 ferrofluids has been studied using the SANS technique. Contrast variation allows the scattering of particles and surfactants to be measured independently. The presence of small chain-like aggregates at all volume fractions below 1 vol% Fe 3 O 4 and larger three-dimensional aggregates at higher volume fractions is derived.
