A framework for health equipment planning, incorporation, and management

2002
A conceptual framework for health authorities to use in their planning, incorporation, and management of equipment within their institutions and systems is presented. This framework provides a rational, need-based process that helps the decision makers to find the best long-term solution considering their real needs, political-cultural-geographical environment, available resources, and future sustainability. Ultimately, this framework will yield a comprehensive equipment policy that will reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) and ensure that equipment is an efficient tool rather than a burden to the health organization or system.
