Dissymmetric tetradentate salicylaldimine Cu(II) and Co(II) complexes derived from 1,8-naphthalene and different salicylaldehydes

2012
 The synthesis, structure and spectroscopic properties of salicylaldimine Schiff base ligands (LnH2) (n = 1, 2, 3 and 4) (L1H2=N, N’-[1,8-naphthalene]-3-methylsalicylaldimine, L2H2 = N,N’-[1,8-naphthalene]-5-methylsalicylaldimine, L3H2 = N,N’-[1,8-naphthalene]-3-methoxy-salicylaldimine and L4H2= N,N’-[1,8-naphthalene]5-methoxysalicylaldimine), respectively and their mononuclear Cu(II) and Co(II) complexes [MLn] are described. Four new dissymmetric tetradentate salicylaldimine ligands containing a donor set of N2O2 were prepared by reaction of 1,8-naphthalene with different salicylaldehydes. Tetradentate Cu(II) and Co(II) complexes were obtained by reacting the ligands with Cu(Ac)2.H2O and Co(Ac)2.4H2O in a 1:1 mole ratio. The ligands and their Cu(II) and Co(II) complexes were characterized by 1 H-NMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis, elemental analysis, molar conductivity, magnetic susceptibility, X-ray powder analysis, and their morphology was studied by SEM measurements.
