The Performance of an Upgraded IGBT Switch Based Injection Kicker Pulser for TPS Booster

An IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) switch based LTB (Linac-To-Booster transfer line) kicker pulser has been satisfactory tested and put for routine operation in TPS (Taiwan Photon Source). The key features of this upgraded pulser, in comparison with the previous thyratron based PFN (Pulse-Forming-Network) pulser, concerning flat-top pulse length, flatness, fall time, pulse-to-pulse stability, and postpulse ripple have been drastically improved under the electric-noisy environment that has encountered at present field experience. The available bunch train for injection into the booster has increased by a factor of 5. This performance upgrade also provides the opportunity for a steady exploration related to booster injection characteristics.
