Relationship between apolipoprotein E gene polymorphism and disease

Apolipoprotein E (ApoE), an important plasma lipoprotein, which has three isforms, E2,E3 and E4,plays an critical role in lipid transport and metabolism. Many studies showed ApoE also had immunoregulaory effect. It is suggested that ApoE may involved in the development of many diseases. ApoE and its gene polymorphism had a strong relationship with a variety diseases, such as hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis,Alzheimer's diseases, diseaseses of Nervous system diseases and sepsis.
