A Narrow-band Circularly Polarized Microstrip Leaky-wave Antenna With the Open Stopband Suppressed

2020
In this paper, a narrow-band circularly polarized (CP) microstrip leaky-wave antenna (LWA) with open stopband suppressed is proposed. The asymmetric element is introduced in the antenna to realize zero-crossing beam scanning and CP characteristic. The meandered-line slow-wave structure for the whole antenna is used to narrow the band. In the operating band of 8.2--8.6 GHz, measured scanning angel of the fabricated antenna is from –30° to +7°. The antenna axial ratio (AR) is below 3 dB at the corresponding beam direction and gain is above 9.1 dBi over the operating band. It has potential applications in radar and wireless communication systems for simple structure, low-profile, with beam-scanning, narrow-band, and CP performance.
