Microstructures and high-temperature wear behavior of NiAl/WC-Fex coatings on carbon steel by plasma cladding

2020
Abstracts In this paper, in order to improve the carbon steel service condition in a severe high-temperature wear field, a novel and dense NiAl/WC (NiAl-20%wtWC) and NiAl/WC-Fex (x = 5,10 and 15 in weight percent) coatings on carbon steel were produced by plasma cladding. The composition, microstructure as well as the tribological properties of the coating at 600 °C were characterized. The result shows that adding Fe can decrease the cracks of NiAl/WC coatings and makes WC particles remelt into small size and uniformly distributed in the Fe-rich dendritic structure. Due to WC homogeneous distribution, NiAl/WC-Fe5 coating has the lowest friction coefficient and wear rate.
