Adaptive damping control strategy of virtual synchronous generator for frequency oscillation suppression

2016
Virtual synchronous generator (VSG) is grid-friendly for integrating distributed generations (DGS). However, because of the fluctuation of DGs power input, VSG frequency oscillation may occur and cannot operate stable with traditional control scheme. To solve this problem, an adaptive damping control strategy of VSG is proposed. Firstly, the principle of VSG frequency oscillation produced by power fluctuation is demonstrated. Then, the selection principle of damped coefficient and the small-signal model analysis of VSG adaptive control strategy are presented, in which the frequency oscillations are limited to a reliable range and output power oscillation is also weakened. Finally, the simulation results are presented to verify the validity and effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.
