Using chamotte insulating brick for the roofs of glass furnaces

1987
The authors assess the possibility of replacing currently used and expensive dinas insulating materials with more plentiful and cheaper chamotte insulating brick treated with sealing and heat resistant materials in order to inhibit the corrosion and thermal degradation of the refractories in actual furnace applications. The refractories are tested for corrosion and temperature resistance and for their insulating properties and are found to be superior insulators to dinas materials. Furnace fuel consumption tests indicated fuel savings ranging from 13 to 14.9 percent.
