Computational Study of a Face Mask for Treating Sinus Disease

2020
Lately, sinus disease has become prevalent. Sinus disease that may arise due to the presence in a location colder than body temperature can be avoided by warming the sinus region with a facemask. This paper presents the design and development of a facemask that can maintain warmth in the nasal area and sinuses. To maximize temperature comfort, it includes a volume overlap. A two-dimensional numerical analysis to predict flow characteristics of velocity and temperature distributions during breathing cycles is provided using Ansys ® FLUENT 2020 R1 Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations. Findings approve that the mask achieves its aim in warming nasal and sinus areas.
