Structural stability of SiC coated carbon under high temperature plasma flame

2014
The structural stability of the SiC coated and uncoated carbon has been investigated after exposure to the high temperature plasma flame with various exposure times. When the carbon was coated with Si, a SiC coating layer was successfully synthesised with the powder mixture (30Si–65Al2O3–5NaF, wt-%). The SiC coated carbon showed an excellent high temperature flame resistance compared with the uncoated carbon. The degradation behaviours are discussed in terms of weight changes and microstructural observations under dynamic plasma flames.
