The invention relates to a method of functionalizing a textile substrate in order to impart water and oil repellent properties, said method comprising the steps making provision for: - preparing a macromolecular formulation having a hydrophilic portion (3) which is surrounded by respectively a hydrophobic part (2) and a reactive part in ionizing radiation; - impregnating said textile substrate with said formulation; - applying an ionizing radiation to said impregnated substrate so as to ensure the grafting of macromolecules on said substrate by reaction of their reactive moiety.
