Light inhibiting composition for light stable cosmetic material

1996
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a light inhibiting composition for a light stable cosmetic material for protecting the epidermis and the hair of a human body from ultraviolet rays. SOLUTION: This light inhibiting composition for a light stable cosmetic material contains 0.75-5wt.% UV-A blocking agent of a dibenzoylmethane-type and 0.5-2wt.% benzylidene-type stabilizer of formula I formula II is a bridged cyclic compound having a structure of camphor (1,7,7-trimethyl- bicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-one, etc.); R to R are each H, a lower alkyl, a lower alkoxy, etc.} in a cosmetic vehicle containing a fat phase. Also, in the case of excluding 4-methylbenzylidene camphor from the range of formula I, the composition contains further an optional UV-B filter. As the compound of formula I, 3-(4'-methoxy-benzylidene)-6,6-dimethyl-dicyclo[3.1.1]heptan-2-one is cited. The composition is effective against the ultraviolet rays having wave lengths between 320-400nm, and at 320 and 400nm.
