Approach towards Left-Turning Vehicles Trajectory at the Intersection Based on Video Technology

The significance of left-turning vehicles trajectory studies lies in application of intersection capacity and safety of analysis. However, data reliability plays an important role in the ability to the understand the characteristics and microscopic modeling of left-turning vehicles at the intersection. This study takes advantage of observation-based video data by using self-developed software to retrieve reliable vehicle trajectory data. In this paper, we propose a method for coordinate transformation between the video and the ground. The result shows that our method provides an effective solution to obtain traces of left-turning vehicles at the intersection.
