INTERIOR LIGHTING OF TRANSIT BUSES: IS MORE REALLY BETTER?

1997
Transit buses operate in both daylight and darkness. They must function in urban and suburban environments where the streets are artificially lit during nighttime hours. The inside of these vehicles must be lighted to provide for the safety, comfort, and convenience of the passenger. The lighting system must provide enough light for our clients to move about the vehicle safely, to read if they so choose, to see others inside the vehicle, and to see outside the vehicle. The system must provide sufficient light for the filming of passenger activity (as a crime deterrent) in some operations. In order to assure these functions and others related to maintainability and fire safety, the Transit Industry prepared a baseline specifications for interior lighting systems.
