Effect of Sulphur and Farm Yard Manure on physical and chemical properties of Sunflower grown soil and nutrient uptake by crop

2013
The field experiment was conducted during Rabi seasonat the Research Farmof Department of Soil Science,Allahabad School of Agriculture, Sam Higginbottom Instituteof Agriculture, Technology Sciences, Deemedto-be-University, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh which is locatedbetween 25° 24’ 08.71” N latitude and 81° 50’16.95" E longitude, along the Yamuna River and 98 meterabove the mean sea level. The soil of the experimentalfield is alluvial in nature. The treatments wereallocated in 4 x 4 factorial randomized block designwith three replications, four levels of FarmYardManure(FYM) and Sulphur (T0= S0 kg ha–1 FYM0 t ha–1), (T1=S0 FYM6 t ha–1), (T2 = S0 FYM8 t ha–1) , (T3 = S0 FYM10t ha–1), (T4 = S35 kg ha–1 FYM0 t ha–1), (T5 = S35 kg ha–1FYM6 t ha–1), (T6 = S35 kg ha–1 FYM8 t ha–1), (T7 = S35kg ha–1 FYM10 t ha–1), (T8 = S45 kg ha–1 FYM0 t ha–1),(T9 = S45 kg ha–1 FYM6 t ha–1), (T10 = S45 kg ha–1 FYM8 tha–1), (T11 = S45 kg ha–1 FYM10 t ha–1), (T12 = S55 kg ha–1FYM0 t ha–1), (T13 = S55 kg ha–1 FYM6 t ha–1), (T14 = S55kg ha–1 FYM8 t ha–1) and (T15 = S55 kg ha–1 FYM10 t ha–1).Each plot size was of 3 m2 (2 x 1.5). The crop was appliedrecommended dose of fertilizers i.e. N, P and K @70, 60 and 40 kg ha–1. The of Bulk density (Db) (g cm–3),Particle density (Dp) (g cm–3), percent pore space (PPS)and percent water holding capacity (PWHC) of soil, pHand EC at 25° C (d Sm–1), percent organic carbon, availableNitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium and Sulphur (kgha–1) of soil was found significant at different levels ofSulphur and FYM. The N, P, K and S uptake (kg ha–1) bysunflower plant and grain was also found significant atdifferent levels of Sulphur and FYM. The interaction effectsof sulphur and FYM on Db, Dp, PPS and PWHC ofsoil, pH and EC at 25°C (d Sm–1) of soil, % OC, availableN, P, K and S (kg ha–1) of soil were recorded significant.The interaction effect of sulphur and FYM on N, P, K andS uptake (kg ha–1) by sunflower plant and grain was alsofound significant. It was also observed that Dp and pHof soil was gradually decreased with an increase dose ofSulphur and FYM. The Dp, PPS and PWHC, EC, % OC,available N, P, K and S (kg ha–1) of soil were graduallyincreased with an increase in dose of sulphur and FYM.The N, P, K and S uptake (kg ha–1) by sunflower plant andgrain were also increased gradually with an increase indose of Sulphur and FYM.
