Advanced Wastewater Treatment by Means of Dry Bed Filters; Semi-Technical Test Results; Experiences on a Large-Technical Scale and Results

After describing and explaining the dry bed filtration process, in the experimental part of this paper the results of semi-technical tests are presented and a measurement nomogram for dual-media dry bed filters is presented. In the second part of the paper, the experiences and results of two large-scale plants (municipal wastewater treatment plant; paper industry) are discussed. The semi-technical results show that the dry bed filtration process is an extraordinarily efficient process and contains the possibility of simultaneous elimination of suspended solids, nitrification and elimination of residual COD and BOD. The large-technical tests show that meanwhile this process has also been proven in practice.
