Field-Evaluation of Electrodynamic Screens for Maintaining High Optical Efficiency Operation of Solar Collectors

2017
Performance of the electrodynamic screen (EDS) films, laminated on solar panels and solar mirrors, is reported based on their evaluation for dust removal efficiency in simulated desert climates within an environmental chamber and in two solar fields. Design of field-test units incorporating EDS film laminated solar panels and mirrors is described. EDS samples demonstrated continued performance after months of exposure to outdoor conditions with slight decreases in specular reflectance restoration. We report here the stability of the EDS film activated by three-phase high voltage pulses against moisture and air ingress, environmental degradation, windstorm abrasion, the effects of humidity cycling, and UV radiation.
