Tribological study of phosphazene-type additives in perfluoropolyether lubricant for hard disk applications©

1999
Experimental investigations have been carried our on the performance of phosphazene-type additives. X-100, XML-86 and X-1P, in Z-DOL, a commonly used perfluoropolyether type hard disk lubricant. Contact-start-stop tests, stiction tests and constant speed drag tests were performed to evaluate the stiction and friction behavior of various lubricant/additive combinations and to compare the results with the performance of Z-DOL. The results show that X-100 and X-1P additives reduced stiction compared to disks lubricated with pure Z-DOL, while XML-86 increased stiction.
