Pregnancy detecting device and method

1989
PURPOSE: To enable even an unskilled user to detect pregnancy easily and reliably, by utilizing a sandwich reaction of a combination of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and a biospecific hCG reagent. CONSTITUTION: Nitrocellulose membrane 1 stores immobilized hCG in a first region 1A, anti-hCG monoclonal antibody or polyclonal antibody in a second region, and inactive protein, i.e., serum albumin of cattle, in a third region. The above-mentioned filter is put into a plastic outer cylinder to constitute a stick, and a hydrophilic material 2 to secure capillary flow of urine is laid thereon, and, next, a region 3 for a material which adsorbed pH is set on the upper layer. Next, a porous inactive element 5 to block the upper part of the device is arranged and, at last, a vessel 6 storing a colored bio-specific reagent to be adsorbed by a cellulosic material 7 is fit on the above-mentioned outer cylinder. Thereby operations come to be necessary are only dipping of the device until discoloring of the region 3 occurs to show that the vessel is full of urine and observation of the nitrocellulose membrane after the stick is removed.
