A theoretical model for an amperometric glucose sensor using polypyrrole as the immobilization matrix

1993
Abstract A theoretical model is presented for an amperometric glucose sensor where the enzyme glucose oxidase (GOD) is immobilized in conducting polypyrrole (PPY). In this model we take into account the oxidation of the mediator inside the conducting polymer. The work reported is an extension of the previous model of Bartlett and Whitaker where PPY was treated as an insulating matrix. The model presented is in good agreement with the experimental results. The thickness of the reaction layer and the glucose and hydroquinone diffusion coefficients were estimated.
