Travelling wave LiNbO/sub 3/ electro-optic modulator with quasi-phase-match coplanar waveguide structure for time-domain applications

The paper presents a new quasi-phase-match coplanar waveguide (CPW) structure used for broadening the optical response of travelling-wave electro-optic Z-cut LiNbO/sub 3/ modulators. A nonperiodic spatial code of CPW with phase-reversal electrode sections was obtained and optimized by a genetic algorithm to provide a distortionless temporal response of the modulator in the picosecond range.
