National Security: An Integration

2012
The concept of national security is a relatively new one (Neocleous 2006). In 1934, the Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences, published by Macmillan, had no entry for the term “national security.” By 1968, however, when the title of this same work was known as the International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences, there was not only an entry for this term but also the suggestion that the concept had been “long been used” by politicians and military leaders (Neocleous 2006, p. 364).
