Is ultrasonic biometry associated with keratometry reliable for evaluating refractive errors in eyes with transparent media

1988
Thousands of satisfactory corrections of implant patients have confirmed the reliability of the regression formula technique for IOL calculation. The aim of this study was to ascertain whether ultrasonic axial length measurement combined with keratometry could be useful to predict the refractive error in 50 eyes with transparent media. On the basis of SRK formula axial length measured manually by immersion A-scan echography and K-readings were used. The results were compared to the values of cycloplegic refraction: a positive correlation was found in all examined eyes. The reliability and the application of the modified regression calculation technique for evaluating refractive errors are discussed.
