Synthesis of uniform crack-free nanoporous gold by dealloying of Au-Cu alloy prepared using permanent magnetic stirring

Abstract In this work, using permanent magnetic stirring, uniform crack-free nanoporous gold was prepared by dealloying of Au25Cu75 alloy without long-time homogenization annealing. As-cast precursors were typical dendritic structure. The dendrite arm was Au rich and Cu deplete, while the interdendritic region was opposite. As the permanent magnetic stirring was applied, the dendrite arm was significantly refined, thereby facilitating the formation of uniform nanoporous structure. Besides, the corrosion current densities also were reduced approximately two orders of magnitude, which revealed lower dissolution rate of Cu atom in nitric acid solution.
