Adhesive wear in a magnetic field

2020
Abstract A magnetic field is one of the important tools for changing the contact interaction processes during friction. There is still no established valid mechanism of the influence of a magnetic field on friction and wear. The paper presents a new model of the adhesion wear of surfaces when applying a magnetic field, which takes into account the magnetostatic forces acting during separation of wear particles. At a qualitative level, the model is in good agreement with experimental results. The model can be used to predict the properties of tribounits operating in magnetic fields, for example, magnetic fluid bearing supports.
