Escovação lingual e percepção subjetiva da halitose em pacientes atendidos no curso de odontologia da Universidade de Fortaleza

O termo halitose e derivado do latim ohalituso que significa ar expirado e do sufixo grego ooseo, que expressa uma condicao anormal ou patologica. Pode ser simplesmente definido como um odor bucal desagradavel. Este e um estudo do tipo retrospectivo. Foram analisados 3187 prontuarios dos pacientes do curso de Odontologia da Universidade de Fortaleza (UNIFOR) e separados 1500 prontuarios que tinham respostas completas as perguntas oVOC s ACHA QUE TEM MAU-HicLITO?o e oESCOVA A LpaNGUA?o. Dos investigados, 518 (34,53%) eram do genero masculino e 982 (65,47%)do genero feminino. A media de idade foi de 37,0±14,3 anos. Quando questionados se escovavam a lingua, 1288 (85,87%) afirmaram que sim e 212 (14,13%) responderam negativamente. Ao serem indagados sobre se achavam que tinham mau halito, 532 (34,47%) afirmaram que sim e 968 (64,53%) responderam negativamente. Pode-se concluir que a maioria dos pacientes atendidos no curso de Odontologia da UNIFOR possui nocao da importância da escovacao lingual. O estudo tambem demonstra a preocupacao predominante do genero feminino em relacao aos autocuidados evidenciada pela realizacao da escovacao lingual e pela sensacao de ainda continuar o problema da halitose (AU) The term halitosis is derived from the Latin ohalituso which means breath expired and the Greek suffix ooseo, which expresses an anormal or pathological condition. From those accounted, 518 (34.53%) were male and 982 (65.47%) were female. The age average was 37,0±14,3 years. When asked if brushing the tongue, 1288 (85.87%) said yes and 212 (14.13%) answered negatively. When asked whe ther they thought they had bad breath, 532 (34.47%) said yes and 968 (64.53%) answered negatively. It can be concluded that most patients seen at the dental clinic of UNIFOR has a notion of the importance of tongue brushing. The study also demonstrates the predominant concern of female gender in relation to self-care evidencedby the completion of tongue brushing and by perception of still be with the halitosis problem.
