Broadband and wideband parametric gain via intermodal four-wave mixing in optical fiber

We demonstrate a novel intermodal four-wave mixing process by dividing a pump at 1047nm between the LP 0,4 and LP 0,5 fiber modes, leading to simultaneously broadband (28nm at 1550nm) and wideband (∼1 octave) spontaneous parametric gain.
