An analysis of 100 cases of criminal domestic violence

Criminal domestic violence refers in the main to the killing or injuring, through the use of violence, of a family member or of a relative or lover involved with the family. According to statistics compiled by the department of criminal investigation of the Tianjin Public Security Bureau, there were 41 cases of domestic violence homicide in the city in 1989, constituting 43.6 percent of the total number of criminal homicides; 37 cases in 1990, or 35.9 percent of the total; and 32 cases between January and May of 1991, or 34.9 percent of the total. Thus, over a period of twenty-nine months, there were 100 such cases, constituting 38.5 percent of all homicides in the same period.
